Blueprint Coalition webinar - adaptation and planning reform

How can net zero and climate adaptation goals be met through planning reform?

  • Title: How can net zero and climate adaptation goals be met through planning reform?
  • When: Thursday, Feb 13, 2025 11:00-12

Planning is a key lever for reaching net zero and adapting to climate change. In this webinar we will discuss how reforms to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and the much-anticipated Future Homes Standard may impact councils’ climate action plans.

The government published its revised NPPF in December re-introducing mandatory housing targets to help deliver 1.5m new homes by 2030. The Future Homes Standard (FHS) expected this Summer will bring building regulation changes to require newly built homes to 75%-80% less carbon emissions than previously built homes. But there are big questions for our panel to tackle.

Will the Future Homes Standards be strong enough to help meet our climate targets? What, if any, are the provisions for reducing embodied emissions or retrofitting existing buildings? And what will be the impact of proposals on regional planning in the English devolution White Paper.
