ADEPT recently responded to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities consultation on Future Homes and Buildings Standards.
ADEPT is supportive in principle of the Future Homes and Buildings Standards but considers that standards need to be delivered at an accelerated pace if the carbon savings are to be achieved. ADEPT is concerned that the standards being consulted on are not sufficiently ambitious to meet the critical climate imperative, are overly reliant on decarbonising the grid rather than reducing at source, and do not go far enough in considering embodied carbon.
