ADEPT responds to new reporting requirements announcement for local highway authorities
ADEPT has responded to the new reporting requirement announcement for local highway authorities.
Hannah Bartram, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Directors of Environment, Economy, Planning & Transport (ADEPT) said:
“ADEPT fully supports greater transparency and the focus on long-term, preventative maintenance - the new funding and reporting requirements are positive steps in the right direction. We're particularly pleased to see the new guidance recognises the ADEPT Carbon Leadership Programme and ADEPT Live Labs 2 programme, embedding decarbonisation and innovation into how councils report on and improve their highways maintenance.
"However, it’s important to note that road condition reflects decades of underinvestment, not just recent performance and while progress will be made, this is just the start of what is needed to tackle the repair backlog. Improvements will take time to be seen on the ground.
“We look forward to reviewing the new guidance in full and will be engaging with members to assess its implications for local highway authorities across England."
